Wi-Fi Chicken Door - Part 5

Back after lunch... we are going to route channels in the frame sides. I haven't used the router table for over 12 months, had to clear away all the stuff that was stored on top and brush off all the sawdust - and cobwebs.

Preparing to route the side frame channels but things came to a abrupt halt - false start! Got held up with a router table problem!
Problem !!!
Had a look from all angles and remembered how I made that router bench 12 year ago. Removed the four benchtop corner screws and dragged the whole thing out to just clear that timber on the right - phew.

Another problem!

Now I remember the jack screw needed to be better secured.

As the jack takes the load from the plunge router springs she will spring toggle in one direction - or the other.

That timber guide thing with the slot should be a hole.

Removed the router bit height adjustment star knob.

Replaced it with one that just has a hole for the jack screw which prevents the jack from toggling under load.

Working well now... let's move on.

I have a few router bit sets

But wait... the bit in there look the right size.

Taking some measurements.

Cut a test slot with the 20mm router bit that was in there using some scrap timber 35mm wide. OK we'll go with that.

Routed the inside of one frame side.

NQR but that's fine the other side will be exactly the same, we just match them up when assembling the whole thing - with the top and bottom timbers.

Doing a mock-up the check progress - all good. Just picture that in the vertical position with a wire connection to the end of the extended actuator arm of the wi-fi water valve - sliding up and down.

Tomorrow I'll route out some more to make the channels deeper. I'll be back...
