FW: Panasonic model numbers + info

To decode the Pana model numbers:
PA= sd ; PV= hd ; PX= hd+digital tuner
5= 8th gen panel ; 6= 9th gen panel
0= standard sound & no SD slot ; 00= better sound + SD slot.

So the 60A has standard sound, no SD slot, but a later gen panel.
If you want to know the differences between 8th & 9th gen panels read on Pana websites.

Q

I am a little confused as the Panasonic site says "1080p Digital Re-mastering Processor - This processor up-converts a variety of video signals, such as those from analogue broadcasts and DVD movies, to provide a level of image quality the approaches full-HD. "

Also the ...60A (HD) , I assume the (HD) means hi def. If it only "approaches" then is it a true hi def unit??

A

The blurb you've quoted refers to the set's abilities in scaling an SD signal for display, supposedly producing an image approaching HD quality.

With regard to HD video, both 720p (which the 42PV60A can natively display) and 1080i/p (which it can't) are both valid high definition video standards. "Full HD" is a term that is in common use as a synonym for 1920x1080 video, but AFAIK it has no formal standing as such.

As the 42PV60A can be fed and fully resolve 720p video, it can correctly be labelled as an HD display.

Saffron rice

TRY this great recipe for saffron rice.

Heat 1 cup chicken stock and 1 cup water in a small saucepan over moderate heat until hot, then crumble in a pinch of saffron threads into liquid and stir. Remove from the heat.

Cook half a chopped onion in 2 tablespoons unsalted butter in a large, heavy saucepan over moderate heat, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, for 5-8 minutes.

Add 1 cup long-grain rice and cook, stirring, until fragrant and pale golden, about 3 minutes.

Stir in the saffron stock, half teaspoon salt and generous pinch of black pepper and bring to a boil.

Reduce the heat to low and cook, covered, until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed, about 18 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, 5 minutes, then fluff the rice with a fork and serve.
