ALERT - ALDI Workzone 4Ah batteries.

Bought one reduced from $40 to $30 a week ago for the Workzone cordless mitre saw (which needs 4ah not 2ah) so I don't have to keep nicking one of the 4ah batteries from the two cordless drills. Only went to use the mitre saw two days ago and the fully charged battery cuts out !!! Checked the saw with both the other batteries - working fine. Gave the new battery another check and saw starts and then stops. OK…exchanged that for another one yesterday and the same thing - cuts out. Back to get a refund for that battery.

I suspect a batch problem so returned for refund and will wait for next time around.

Mitre saw - Xfinity 20V 4.0Ah battery

After hooking up the Xfinity 20V sliding mitre saw to two car batteries so I can use the thing while waiting for the battery to arrive – guess what?

The phone order that I placed with Action Spares on Saturday 6th for a Xfinity 20V / 4.0Ah battery  - has arrived this morning.

ALDI–20V mitre saw

After hooking up the mitre saw to two car batteries on the back corner workbench I moved everything to the front butchers table where I put aside the old Bunnings XU1 saw for a family member and setup the new saw. Now I can use it while waiting for the 20V/4.0Ah battery to arrive.

ALDI – 20V Mitre Saw

Follow-up to the WorkZone Xfinity 20V sliding mitre saw that I purchased marked down to $49 from $149. This is part of the Xfinity range of ‘skin tools’ where the battery and charger are not included – additional purchases. The saw was marked down because this stuff was on sale in October and I know at that time there was a shortage of the new 4.0Ah batteries (not 2.0Ah) required to power the saw.

Managed to find the $19 charger at another store but no 4.0Ah batteries around which sell for $39. That’s a very good price for 4Ah capacity. I could wait for them to come around again but by then the return period may have run out and who knows, the saw itself could be faulty. Decided to order a 4.0Ah battery from the supplier – Action Spares. Same price as in store with $15 delivery charge – OK with that.

With the battery ordered and still wanting to check out the saw decided to hook it up to a couple of used car batteries so we can have a play. Terminals on the saw same as the auto spade type so lets make up a cable to connect the saw.

ALDI – 20V Sliding Mitre Saw

ALDI - a lucky tool purchase. Why lucky...was waiting for ET at Waverley Gardens and while guarding the trolley this nice elderly ethnic (maybe Italian) couple came strolling past me. The gentleman was pushing a trolley with a big box on top - a mitre saw.

Mitre saw purchase

Thanks to Ozito (again) for locating a 305mm Sliding Compound Mitre Saw and putting my name on the last one at Bunnings Notting Hill.

One of the last and this particular model not available anymore – wonder why ?

Mitre saw - is good.

Needed to cut some 30cm wide material this morning which usually requires the table saw, then realised I now have a sliding mitre saw that can do the job!

Mitre saw - work station wings

As previously mentioned I'm mounting the new saw on a old hospitality trolley with castors. After sketching some ideas on paper I've come up with enough to start measuring and cutting wood to make some wings that will mount on either side of the trolley to support longer lengths of timber.

Above: This is a mock up, each wing is supported by a rectangular box.

Mitre saw - where to put it?

Found a spot next to the band saw, it's sitting on a old hospitality trolley with castors which is good because I'll need to pull it out from it's parking spot before using the saw. Thing is my router was sitting on this trolley and that is now down the back of the shop on top of some other stuff.

ALDI: Sliding mitre saw

ALDI/WORKZONE sliding mitre saw - Been out all day and keen to try out the new mitre saw that was purchased yesterday so off to the workshop to play around with it and do some test cutting. Out of the box the alignment is pretty good and produced nice clean square cuts. For the money very happy with the saw.

ALDI - WORKZONE 2200W Sliding Mitre Saw

Been holding off waiting for a mark down but only one left at Rowville, we have to make a move so drive out there and grab it. Anyway $169 is a pretty good price! Got out to the car and we have a problem, to big for boot and can't fit through back door. Now what? two options remain front passenger seat or unpack the beast! Lay back front seat and have a go - YES. ET had to sit behind me - not happy.
