Bandsaw 34 - Prepping for wheel balancing

It's not a good idea to balance the wheel as it is...on it's 25 mm shaft. Bearings of this size have far to much friction so what I do is temporarily mount the wheel onto a smaller set of bearings (10mm) that have a much lower (relative) friction.

I don’t have any small bearing left so we had to 'borrow' the pair of thrust bearing from the lower blade guide assembly.

Bandsaw 33– Flange repairs done

Back in the shop and had a tidy up, here is video to show the results of my efforts to minimize wheel wobble.

Before I put the wheel back onto the saw I will need to balance it again so that’s the next task.

Bandsaw 32 - Mounting new flange

The main challenge when mounting bearing flanges onto either side of a wheel is to minimize wheel wobble. Run out is not an issue here, that can be taken care of later. The purpose of the 4 holes in the wheel is to allow clamps to be passed through to hold the flange bearing during the gluing stage.

The wheel needs to be mounted on the workbench so I removed the lower shaft from the saw and made a temporary mount for it which is clamped to the workbench.

Bandsaw 30 - Creaking noises???

While using the beast today noticed a strange creaking noise emanating from down below underneath the cutting table? Stopped the saw and removed the lower blade guard box to have a look and noticed that the front bearing was separating itself from it's wooden flange which has cracked/split on one side. But wait...the front bearing can't move forward because it's secured with a hose clamp on the 25mm bearing shaft? Had a look around the back of the wheel and no hose clamp to secure the rear bearing - my bad. So...except for the front bearing everything else (wheel and rear bearing flange) has been slowly working it's way along the shaft to the rear exposing the front bearing - good thing I stopped to investigate!

The bearing should be flush with the flange - which has split!

Cocoon CCTV Security System – camera problems

UPDATE 19/01/15 – Just got back from Winplus in Boronia with a new camera, straight back up the ladder to install and working OK. Tonight I will check night mode operation!

Camera No 4 (Backyard) is dead – RIP

This is the second camera to die so off again to Winplus in Boronia to exchange for a new one. Weather improved this afternoon so decided to install the camera which I had running on test overnight next to the DVR.

Update on faulty garden water pump

With reference to:

Water tank pump has sprung a leak!

Got a call today from the Stihl Shop informing me that there are no spare parts available to repair the pump (what a surprise Smile) and to trip back over there to collect the required paperwork so we can get a full refund from ALDI.

I was expecting this outcome that’s why I went off to ALDI last Wednesday and bought the same water pump while they were on sale as it’s likely they won’t come around again for at least 6 months.

So…for the original purchase price of $99.99 we start again with a new pump and 12 month warranty period – happy with that.

Acoustic guitar recording – update

Snippet from 'Streets Of London' (Ralph McTell)

Still trying to get the audio right, this time with a old condenser microphone via a camcorder cable into my Samsung Galaxy GT-N7000 – no good. Looks like I’ll have to buy a decent mic and preamp – ouch.

Holly - This should pacify those people who have commented that some of the photos I posted of my dog in relaxed positions have been a - bit raunchy.

ALDI – off this morning to buy another water pump!

We decided that while we are waiting for some outcome on the other pump (see previous post) we should grab another one since they have come around again at ALDI this Wednesday - 12 month cycle. If the other one comes back repaired or replaced within 30 days I can return this one, if it's a refund then I'll crack open and install the new one.

Garden pond update-

Did some more rebuilding on the pond today under the cover of a tarp to keep the sun off my back - almost done On the way home from the horse paddocks popped into Bunnings and bought another water plant and a pump prefilter (see next post).

Above: Hot day so erected a temporary tarp to keep the sun off my back.

Garden pond update-

To avoid frequent cleaning of the (small) internal filter of Aquapro AP-1050 pond pump I  purchased the AQUAPRO 200 x 100 x 100mm Small Prefilter Sponge for $7.98 - from Bunnings . Took me a few minutes to work out how to fit the pre filter sponge onto the pump. Once fitted you end up with some left over pump parts!

The filter sponge has a plastic tube running down its centre. This tube is threaded at one end which screws into the pump inlet. No more fiddling with the pump, cleaning now is simply a matter of sliding the sponge off its tube and rinsing under tap water

Water tank pump has sprung a leak!

Purchased a ALDI Gardenline 1100W garden pump last January which now leaking water! Just inside warranty period so rang the 1300 number and was told to take it to the Stihl Shop Dandenong for warranty repair/replacement or refund form ALDI.

Garden pond update

Dropped into Bunnings on the way home from the horses and got a Clam Shell Sandpit which looks the same size/shape/profile as the old one which will now act as a base for the new one.

New lamp for balcony Christmas tree.

Lamp died on this fibre optic tree a few days ago. It's a MR11 12V/10W dichroic lamp which turned out hard to replace - and expensive!. No luck at Bunnings, Masters and Beacon Lighting in Scoresby. Found two at Beacon in Cranbourne so thanks to the older kid for picking them up for us. They cost $10.95 each !!!
