DIY Twin Floor Lamp - Part 1

Some time ago bought a couple of LED downlights with 240V plug leads. Finally decided to do something with them – a twin floor lamp. This will stand between the two mitre saws that are parked at the front of the workshop against the roller door.

Found a piece of plywood the right size.

Workshop Tour – Feb 2018

Spent some time over the last few days cleaning up and reorganising the workshop.  The motivation for doing this is to find a parking spot for the latest nearly completed project – the 14” bandsaw!

This is the big Ozito 12” sliding mitre saw. I was lucky to get one of the last as they don’t make 12” anymore. Thanks to Ozito (again) for tracking one down and getting one to the Bunnings Scoresby store for me to pick-up!

Homemade LED work lamp 3

In this session we will make the lamp socket.

Laying out the lamp connector socket, the MDF is just the right thickness.

Homemade LED work lamp 2

From the previous related post on this with the lamp fitted into the front of the can we can now make the base.

Marked out the base on a piece of MDF.

IKEA work lamps

Off shopping again today in a similar manner to a few days ago - Bunnings and then IKEA. If your after a decent work lamp I highly recommend this one, very nicely made and for a swing arm type lamp the $20 price tag is good. Bought three of them for the workshop.

Garage Workshop – Part 1

The 7 x 3.5 metre garage provides a nice workshop area but…I still have a space problem. This is mainly due to the fact that the garage was…well…just a garage with all the usual home and handyman stuff. However over the last decade, and certainly since I retired in 2010, woodworking has moved to the forefront of my hobbies. Therein lies the problem, cupboards full of electrical, electronics and computer stuff taking up floor space and preventing me from expanding my woodworking operations. There’s already a ‘space backlog’ with my router table and jigsaw table stacked in one corner – nowhere to put them. Anyway…winter is a good time for planning and that’s what I’m doing so hopefully by spring I’ll have somewhere to move all the secondary hobby stuff to – another shed?

Besides all the issues above I’ve had to locate my main workbench in the centre area (which I would like clear) because I have a pile of 2.4M long laminated chipboard material down the middle on the floor, so I just put the bench over that. The pile sticks out past the bench so I had to make up a ‘special’ stand for the table saw, which like the bench sits over the stuff – crikey.

Square drive screws

While at Bunnings today finally got some 30 and 45 mm square drive screws (driver bit included), something I've been meaning to do for a while. Boy...they screw right in with no need for pilot or countersink - much better than the common Philips head type.

Another new toy for kitties.
