Garden Sentry - problems

Went out last night to turn on the garden tap and check the motion activated sprinkler and discovered the system has a problem. The PIR sensor turns on and stays on? Gave up after stuffing around for a while and shut everything down.

Here we are this morning in the workshop to swap out the sensor. On the right is the Garden Sentry with the faulty sensor. On the left is another project that uses the same sensor.

Motion Activated Sprinkler - part 7

Decided to combine the sensor unit, irrigation solenoid and impact sprinkler on a length of pine timber. The incentive for doing this is to deter a wandering cat that is now visiting us much too frequently at night; stalking our possums and nesting birds!

Made a box to hold the sensor unit and now making a base support for the timber stand.

Motion Activated Sprinkler - part 6

Was in Bunnings the other day and something reminded me of this 2016 project gathering dust under a workbench.

The basic concept is if you have a problem with unwelcome visitors (daytime/nocturnal…anytime) this is for you. Originally I came up with this idea to solve a particular problem, to keep a daytime prowling cat out of the backyard that was stalking our chooks. After I do a review of this with some costing I'll put it up on Al's Workshop - see what happens.

On the left is a water solenoid and to the right the control box. I'll do another post explaining how this works along with a demo in the backyard.

Motion Activated Sprinkler - part 4

A bit of a rest after house cleaning and then off to the garage to make final preparations for water testing the unit.

Found some click-on barbs at Bunnings so I'll change the plain barb on the left for one of those - like on the right.

Motion Activated Sprinkler–part 3

Another session did some prep work on the plastic box and after drilling some holes actually got some wiring done!

Using a strain relief cord bushing to secure the power lead, we can wire in the sensor to the transformer now.

Motion Activated Sprinkler–part 2

Off to the garage to do some more thinking and planning...

Found a more suitable US Robotics modem (remember them) 20V AC power adaptor so cracked open the case to pull out the actual transformer.

Motion Activated Sprinkler - part 1

Our Chooks - Prowling Cat

We have a cat coming over the back fence stalking our chooks. I have put up some stop-gap wire and since then have not actually seen the bloody thing in the backyard. Still it's a big worry so we need to do more to strengthen and monitor the perimeter:

1) Put up more fencing
2) Install CCTV cameras
3) Buy or make a Motion Activated Sprinkler

Another new toy for kitties.
