Kodak Negative Scanner - Part 6

Another day and back again to have another go at cutting another piece of Acrylic.

Yay... a nice clean, clear and unmarked piece of 'Acrylic glass' that will sit on top of the negative to stop it curling. This time I trimmed off two edges of the sheet to get away from where air and moisture had penetrated the edges drying out the adhesive backing. Same again hair dryer and where needed Tree Tree Oil. This time for the final clean I used a microfibre cloth!

Kodak Negative Scanner - Part 4

From the last session we glued the planks together so we can continue making the basic scanner box.

The planks are tongue & groove, we don't want the groove on the bottom planks so trimmed them off on the 8" sliding mitre saw and here we are planing the bottom edges and checking they are all the same width.

Kodak Negative Scanner - Part 3

The scanner box will have rectangular slots on either side. The sliding carrier will be inserted from the right side - something like that.

Scrap piece of thin MDF.

Kodak Negative Scanner - Part 2

Making a start building the box with no planning or sketch drawing. I figure however it turns out it needs a base so let's jump in without dipping a toe.

Found a scrap of MDF that will just be large enough.

Windows 10 - Camera photos backup

Besides all the usual backup procedures I still like to do a manual MS-DOS like backup using the Xcopy command. I have been taking digital photos since the late nineties when I got myself a Agfa ePhoto 1680 camera - it was expensive!

With no bird nests to monitor I setup the $20 Reject Shop YC365 Wi-Fi camera at the bottom of the driveway looking at the east sky.

Check out these crazy drivers

Heading down Ferntree Gully towards Eastlink overpass with Chesterfield Farm on the left, looked like Indian or Paki driving late model vehicles - WTF.

Another year another camera folder, as you can see from the screen capture started taking digital photos way back in 1997 before they became mainstream – OMG

Vapour trails…

545478_4937312713328_1948154096_n

Vapour trails...left behind by some sort of twin jet engine aircraft. By the time I grabbed my Kodak Z730 camera to take snaps the vapour trails had already started to merge together.

I purchased this camera in 1998 at a time whem most people would not have heard of digital cameras. It cost $1600 dollars - OMG
I still have this cameraa in perfect working order and take it out for a Sunday drive. Always amazed at the pictures it produces from a 1.3mp CCD.
One issue was battery consumption, a set of 4 NMHI batteries and a charger was supplied. In the late 90's NiMH batteries did not pack a lot of power (lower current ratings) and were expensive. I had several sets in the bag to keep me going for a couple of hours and always putting the camera into standby between shots.
