Bandsaw 42 - Update oops

Seniors moment during construction - last year!
Noticed today while using the saw that the whole upper blade guide arm assembly is skewed with respect to...err...everything else! How did that happen? with a good eye for true & square even before I pick up a square that should not have slipped past me!

Backtracking dismantling stuff to find out where the skew problem lies.

Square drive screws

While at Bunnings today finally got some 30 and 45 mm square drive screws (driver bit included), something I've been meaning to do for a while. Boy...they screw right in with no need for pilot or countersink - much better than the common Philips head type.

Bandsaw 41 - New table update

In the previous workshop post I routed a track down the table for cross cutting, here I've done another track across the table for rip cuts.

This is where I finished the previous session with a track down the table…

Bunnings – BBQ purchase is unsafe.

Bought some sausages yesterday to try out the new BBQ (see previous "Jumbuck 2 burner floor sale" post) for lunch today and noticed something when hooking up the bottle from the big 5 burner BBQ. The regulator is missing the O ring !!! Off to Bunnies to fix that and the guy on the returns counter informs me that anything on sale off-the-floor is sold - AS IS. Proceeded to cut him down, regardless of the type of sale the item/product MUST be sold in safe condition so he backed off and rang to get someone from that area down the back. The rest was plain sailing, lovely lady from down there found and gave me a $7.50 Gasmate twin-pak (see picture) along with a no-charge docket – happy with that.

Above: The O ring is missing, I should have noticed that right at the start.

Bandsaw 40 - New table

Further to this just finished routing a 12mm mitre track down the table for cross cuts. Next job is to do one across for rip cuts. Oldies reading this should note the make of the (all metal) mitre gauge!

The Ryobi trim router was a good buy.

Bandsaw 39 - Replacement table

Finally got around to replacing the temporary table that was a rush job so I could start cutting wood on the saw.

With the old temporary table removed you can see stuff that's normally out of view; the bottom wheel and lower blade guides.

Australia Post - MyPost

Although I've never bought a postage stamp in my life went ahead and filled out the forms and took to the local post office and got - another card. Just received e-mail from Aus Post enticing me to register for a secure (yeah right) digital mailbox. That's right, it's a DIGITAL one!

Email from Australia Post, I didn't ask for and don't need one of these.

Pocket Hole Joinery

Decided to make a pocket hole jig.

A pocket hole is simply a hole drilled at an angle that forms a "pocket" for the screw to sit into. You can usually find examples of pocket hole joinery around the house, turn a timber chair upside down or look under a table. After the pocket hole is drilled, a specially designed fastener is used to assemble the joints.

Speckles - good news

On our way back home from the vet and feeling relived after the vet had a feel and informed us that the "mass" inside her has gone.

The "mass" is the result of secreting egg material which leads to egg peritonitis which in turn leads to infection - just finished her second round of antibiotics.

Now we wait and see what happens when her $99 hormone implant (long acting, slow-release hormone to stop ovulation and egg production ) - wears off.

Winnebago – counter top rail

After a night of thunder and lighting plus a domestic disturbance across the (what was used to be a quiet) road that required police attendance it's turned out to be a nice morning so it's off to the workshop to do a wood job for family friends and their motorhome.

I need to reproduce this counter top rail that will be fixed to the other side.
This is what the profile looks like, it’s a job for a router.

Nar Nar Goon cat run - 5

Another afternoon working on the cat run and still not finished - never mind. Travelling time chews up on-site job time, the round trip is about 80 mins.

Nar Nar Goon cat run - 4

Back home from Nar Nar Goon just before 6.00 pm and first thing is to let the doggies out - lots of excitement. Made steady progress today and we should be done tomorrow.

Above: Stitching up the wire mesh overlaps with fencing wire, the gauge was to heavy so we switched to good old cable ties. Generally they should be used out in the weather, later on I'll give the girls a roll of lighter gauge wire to go back and do that.

Disc Sander damage

To lazy to setup a small stepladder to get something down from the mezzanine floor of the garage workshop I stood on the edge of the table that has my 9" band saw and homemade disc sander on it, then stepped onto the top of the sander itself...and caved in the top!

Above: This is the damaged sander top, it's sitting on a new one that I have already cut and fitted to the disc sander.

Mitre saw - is good.

Needed to cut some 30cm wide material this morning which usually requires the table saw, then realised I now have a sliding mitre saw that can do the job!

Lysterfield Animal Supplies

Off soon to Lysterfield Animal Supplies, we have been going there for many many years mainly to buy stuff for the horses but not today - that's behind us now. ET has a coat on back order for Pixie that's ready for pickup. Mind you we'll still be going there (but not as frequently) for chook feed, hay, dusting powder and other related stuff.

Easters done...now what?

What's on the agenda today?

Holly and Pixie.

Mitre saw - work station wings

As previously mentioned I'm mounting the new saw on a old hospitality trolley with castors. After sketching some ideas on paper I've come up with enough to start measuring and cutting wood to make some wings that will mount on either side of the trolley to support longer lengths of timber.

Above: This is a mock up, each wing is supported by a rectangular box.

Speckles to vet

Speckles off to the vet tomorrow for a check up after her EYP implant about one month ago.

She seems to be doing fine but I wish she would put on more weight.

Easter Monday

And for us a rest day! I'm having a clean up/tidy up in the garage/workshop, kinda like a therapy session.

Nar Nar Goon cat run - 3

Another afternoon session where we got off to a good start laying down wire mesh on the main run but then bogged down a bit on the annex section plus Loz had to make two trips to Masters and get more stuff. C'mon lads push on....

Mitre saw - where to put it?

Found a spot next to the band saw, it's sitting on a old hospitality trolley with castors which is good because I'll need to pull it out from it's parking spot before using the saw. Thing is my router was sitting on this trolley and that is now down the back of the shop on top of some other stuff.

Looking for the Wi-Fi Chicken Doors?

Stay tuned... over the next few days I will be catch-up posting the Wi-Fi chicken Doors. Oh... and my Wi-Fi Bird Feeder. I'll be back...
