Cat in the window

Just fed the Magpies and opened the balcony sliding door to let the hooligan back in - straight to the window.

After the Valentina tragedy there are currently no active bird nests to monitor so we are just scanning the backyard keeping an eye on chooks.

Valentina update - very sad news!

Cat attack - she is gone and both the babies are dead.

One taken by the bloody cat and other left in the nest with a chewed off wing.

Valentina update - introducing the little ones

Doing some gardening along the front porch and noticed her flying off to do some shopping so grabbed the opportunity to snap some photos. On tip toes with Samsung J7 Pro camera in burst mode and arm outstretched this is the best photo of the lot that was taken.

Even directly eyeballing they blend in so well and hard to see.

Valentina - breaking news

We have another clutch!

Checked the mobile bird cam this morning and she was quite active standing on the side of the nest feeding 'new' little ones.

Valentina update - we have eggs!

She has returned to the same nest to start another clutch.

Not much happening at the moment because she is just sitting - for now.

What sort of plant is that?

Valentina is nesting in a Monstera deliciosa Liebm (Araceae) or Fruit-salad-plant.

Valentina (spotted dove) and her babies - part 3

Empty nest!

But wait...as I left there was a flurry of wings and the little ones flew up onto the next-door garage roof. Are they just exploring will they be back?

Valentina (spotted dove) and her babies - part 2

Settling down for another night, growing fast so less room pick a spot and hang on

Valentina (spotted dove) and her babies - part 1

This year we have quite a few nests around the place. This one next to the carport is a bloody good spot where I usually park the bins which are now down the other end of the front porch.

.Just setup the Reject Shop $20 Wi-Fi camera on a microphone stand powered from a power bank. Bugger...missed the noon feeding session, what time do baby spotted doves have tea? To make shopping easier for mum I scatter bird seed, cracked maize and bread crumbs on the boot of my Camry Note: mum only shops for herself, the kids get mum's milk (pigeon milk).

Another new toy for kitties.
