Batman LE update

My Facebook followers (if any) may be wondering why my HERBERT Batman posting abruptly ended? Near completion during a spot check the bloody RF controller died!
Ordered a couple of replacements from China with delivery due in September but hey...they arrived yesterday - yay.

Finished a customer job yesterday so we can get straight onto this again.

Batman LE - Part 16

From the last session we are ready to spray the back panel.
Another busy day and only just got out here to the workshop, it'a about 3.45pm

Batman LE - Part 15

With the battery cavity cut out here we will make a retainer to hold the battery with some MDF strips.

Batman LE - Part 12

From the last session we made some errors when transferring the outline onto the MF blank so now we have to do some more trimming.

Batman LE - Part 11

From the last session I screwed the LED panel onto the (now) flat black front panel and just realised something - bugger!

Before installing the LED strip lights I should have used the LED panel as a template to mark the outline on a 3mm MDF blank for the back panel.

Batman LE part 10

The only thing we managed to do today was spray the front panel and the name plate.

The weak sun came out about four-o-clock so dashed out to prep for spray painting.

Batman LE - Part 9

From the last session the LED strip ended up about 100mm short of the end.

I have RGB strip off cuts so used one to extend the strip. In the video you can see the sticky tape holding down the join for soldering the strip ends.

Batman LE - Part 8

After sitting crouched over a scroll saw in the last session looking forward to something more interesting, installing the LED strip lights!

Removing the template paper, I've remarked so many times that laying down masking tape the sticking the template on makes it so much easier to remove when we get to this stage.

Batman LE - Part 7

Nearly finished cutting out the HERBERT letters and we have a problem!

About to cut the last letter but back down the track we had to stop cutting the B letter as the middle part of the right segment was about to break off - bugger!

Here is the nameplate with cutting template stuck on ready for cutting out on the scroll saw.

Batman LE - Part 5A

In this session we will prepare the name plate for cutting out on the scroll saw.

This is a A3 bat that requires a A3 printer to print the templates. Fortunately I have a Canon A3 printer downstairs in my study. Too lazy to go downstairs to to collect the template printout I managed to squeeze the thing onto A4 paper to print out here on the balcony Canon A4 printer.

Batman LE - Part 2

In this session we are going to align the middle layer LED panel with the front and screw it down.

While lining up I noticed some some of the curves on the LED panel needed a bit more trimming so did most of that on the 8" band saw and finished off on the scroll saw. Here I've cleaned up the edges with a 1/2 round metal file - not rasp.

Batman LE - Part 1C

Like the Mini Batman novelty night light returning after 2 years to pick up where I had left off this one - in early development.

I had already cut the front panel and the middle layer LED strip panel so we pick it up from there.
