Windows Explorer crashing

I have been jousting with this for a while now!

Explorer crashes if I try to copy a file or folder or right click to view file or folder properties - bugger!

I use WFE a lot to manage media for Facebook and blogging.

Tried all the usual things including running SFC to check for corrupt system files and finally started investigating shell extensions in particular third party shell extensions - Bingo!

Download ShellExView:

Extract and right-click run as administrator.
Extensions that appear in pink have been installed by third party applications.
You need to disable all of them and restart Explorer to check that it's working OK.
Then one-by-one go through enable only one and restart Explorer.
Repeat to find the shell extension that crashes Explorer.
In my case it turned out to be Format Factory, a file conversion programme.

Workshop tower PC

Not spending much time in the workshop lately - TOO COLD - but I wanted to backup CCTV DVR recordings to USB stick. Did that and went to check the contents on the workshop PC.

Turned it on - loud rattling noise - turn off!

Samsung Flow - WiFi file transfer

Samsung Flow - transferring files over WiFi between phone and desktop.

I am always connecting my phone to the desktop via USB to transfer files, so much so that I worried about the wear and tear on the phone USB connector.

The Samsung Flow app.

Al's YouTube Channel-

My 'Turning fence palings into dressed timber clip 1' got over 9000 views

Note: My main reason for using YouTube is because my basic WordPress paid account does not allow for direct video uploads to wordpress.com - they need to be hosted on some other external site.

When I want to post videos to my WordPress blog I first upload to YouTube then grab the embed code and past that into my blog post using Open Live Writer.

Camera photos backup

Besides the usual Win10 backup I also do a manual file copy to USB HDD using the DOS XCOPY command.

Started taking digital photos way back in 1998 with the purchase of a Agfa ePhoto 1680 Digital Camera. Was expensive something like $1,600 bucks!

Windows 10 - Camera photos backup

Besides all the usual backup procedures I still like to do a manual MS-DOS like backup using the Xcopy command. I have been taking digital photos since the late nineties when I got myself a Agfa ePhoto 1680 camera - it was expensive!

Lenovo AIO desktop noisy fan

For some months now our Lenovo Ideacentre AIO 510 (23) i7/16GB desktop has been annoying me with a noisy fan.

Even when idle the fan revs will increase and decrease in a cyclic manner.

Removed the back and gave it a clean out; not much in the way of dust clogging things so this will not fix the noisy fan problem. I suspect it’s software…not hardware.

Google adverts begone

Got rid of the bloody thing in particular at the top of news articles.

Hosts file

Edit the hosts file in Windows/Sstem32/drivers/etc

Add two 127.0.0.1 loopback entries which basically sends those bloody host names back to the same machine.

Workshop updates

Raining outside so we’ll potter in the shed today. Made some improvements to the dust extractor for the planer thicknesser machine and then did some computer stuff.

1
Modified a pipe clamp for the output end and used some double-sided foam tape (only one side peeled off) for a neater more leak proof connection. The angle is now easily adjusted.
