Like the Mini Batman novelty night light returning after 2 years to pick up where I had left off this one - in early development.
I had already cut the front panel and the middle layer LED strip panel so we pick it up from there.
Went through my lighting stuff; on the left is a bulk purchase of 3 x RGB led strips so reel off one of those and also grabbed a LED controller with RF remote control.
The advantage of RF over IR - IR (infrared) needs line-of-sight from the remote control to the LED controller IR receiver so the IR diode needs to be exposed making it visible from the front whereas with RF the controller can me mounted anywhere behind the bat - out of sight.
Here is one of the IR bats (I must of made like 50 of them between 2019 - 2021) showing the modified controller with the relocated IR receiver diode poking above the bat head to ensure line-of-sight. This part of the build was always tricky trying to squeeze in both LED strip and controller.
Here is one of the RF bats and with the controller mounted below (see next photo) there is plenty of room to run the LED strip plus simplified construction.
Here is the RF controller tucked into a recess below the name totally out of sight - from the front.
The bat we are building here will use the same layout and construction.
The small controller has many functions, see the video clip.
The RF controller does require some modifications. The RGB plug is too bulky so that needs to be cut off and the wires directly soldered onto the controller pins.
More to come...
