Bailey - it's cooler downstairs

As mentioned in the previous post the boy like all the others has worked out that the best spot on a hot day is downstairs in the rumpus room.

On a sad note that's one of Holly's beds - RIP my girl.

Bailey found Pixie's bed.

That's Pixie's bed (2009-2021 RIP)

Bailey - Hot Weather

The boy is learning about coping with hot weather.

Like all the other pets we have had in this house over the last eighteen years he will figure out that downstairs is the best place on hot days.

Refurbishing BBQ table - Part 4

Sanding and painting the table and benches then finish with a lick of paint.

Sanding and sanding...

Bailey outdoor enclosure-

This animal cage along with many 'used' modified gazebos (into cat runs) was purchased something like 15 years ago. I'm sketching some ideas on paper to use that as the base for a cat play enclosure.

This cage was mainly used mainly by Chester - see next photo.

Refurbishing BBQ table - Part 3

Not able to really get out the last few days but did manage late yesterday when the cloud cover moved on and the sun came out to fill in holes with homemade putty. Sawdust mixed with watered down PVC glue. I should be able to sand down this afternoon.

Glad I managed to do this late yesterday afternoon so I can sand down this afternoon.

Refurbishing BBQ table - Part 2

Screwed on that last board at the back of the table and braced the legs.

With the last board screwed down there's bit of bracing sticking out; that was planned because I'll run some timber along the back to stop stuff falling of the back edge of the table.

Refurbishing BBQ table - Part 1

I made this BBQ table (with bench seats) from left over hardwood flooring after the house was built - 50 years ago!

Anyway... did I say refurbish it's actually a tear down and salvage what I can.

This photo was taken in 2019 when Al's Workshop was in full swing and I used the table mainly for spray painting. It was starting to rot so I covered the thing with a tarp.

Watching Zombie movie with Bailey

Rock wall garden edging - Part 5 final

 Backfilling and tidy up

Finally we can backfill soil on one side and pebbles on the other.

Before that I need to do something about the bulging metal edging. Decided to cut and overlap so it sits flush with the timber edging - along here.

Rock wall garden edging - Part 4

Stakes and screws to secure the fence paling boards.

Prepping to secure the board joins with stakes.

Stand for fishing rod cat toy

Bailey loves this thing from the Reject Shop, so much that we don't have the energy left to hold and flick it around - lol.

Rock wall garden edging - Part 3

Installing the fence paling edging.

Finally with good weather yesterday and was able to continue yard activities, in particular painting the fence palings. This morning we are fitting them along the trench in front of the existing metal edging.

Bailey in Yoga position

Check out this yoga position his back legs are where the front ones should be lol

Rock wall garden edging - Part 2

Last week the weather forced me to down tools on this project.

Having said that I could have continued under cover in the carport but then Bailey came along!

This is where we left off and the next stage was to prep and paint the fence palings.

Bailey - still recovering from yesterday.

Bailey - Stairwell barriers 4

Been busy with other things including coping with a little fur thing lol. At the end of the last session started putting up two rows of gutter guard but changed my mind and continued using the plastic fencing for the very top 'droop barrier row'.

Using clothes pegs to hold the mesh in place makes it a lot easier to align and cable tie.

Bailey - reading morning news

Reading morning news

Trying to read the morning news but all I'm doing is sipping my morning coffee.

Bailey - Stairwell barriers 3

With the top fencing done we need to go back and fence in that narrow section between the top and bottom barriers.

This is where we left off in Part 2

Bailey - Stairwell barriers 2

With the bamboo poles cable tied we can start with the barrier fencing.

Picking up from yesterday we can start the fencing.

Bailey - Stairwell barriers 1

When we moved to Meadowbrook Mansion (coined) eighteen years ago I put up this barrier for Phoenix our Tonkinese and Gipsy a Chihuahua. We also had Cara a big Maremma. Later on when Gipsy and Cara were gone RIP we got Holly a Golden Retriever and Pixie a Miniature Pinscher and then two more Siamese. cats - Milo & Luna. I think that animal timeline is correct.

Anyway none of those pets showed any interest in jumping onto and walking the stair hand rails.
We have been petless since Pixie left us in August and now we have Bailey (another Tonkinese) and he is already showing interest in the stair hand rails!.

Bailey update

Day 2 and whenever we get a chance like when the boy is having a snooze we tend to our puncture wounds.

Rock wall garden edging - Part 1

 Removing excess soil

It's surprising how much soil washes in from the top garden level through the rock wall to overfill the narrow garden bed. So much that the metal garden edging is bulging out in places and looks unsightly.

I actually started this job a couple of day go by digging or rather scooping out soil along the back of the edging.

Chook run tidy again

Speckles will be happy that everything is back to normal.

Workshop drainage - Part 12 Final

 Finish pebble back filling

After finishing and tidying up in the chook run we are back outside to finish backfilling the pebbles.

Getting ready to staple the edge of the cage wire.

Workshop drainage - Part 11

 Finishing inside the cook run.

As posted yesterday before I can finish the last bit of pebble backfilling there's some work to do inside the chook run - in that corner..

We stopped back filling here.

Workshop drainage - part 10

Backfilling the drain

Weather cleared nicely; was able to go out and do some more like back fill the drain with soil and back fill the top end of the PVC pipe with gravel.

Workshop drainage - part 9

Connecting PVC pipe to corner grate

Mixing up some mortar in a spare chook tray bed which is actually a kitty litter tray screwed to a chipboard base. I say 'spare' because we only have one chook left (Speckles) all the others are gone.

Workshop drainage - part 8

Prepping to put in the 90mm PVC storm water pipe and connect to the corner grate.

About to spray paint the top of the PVC pipe Brunswick Green lol so it blends in with the backfill pebbles.

Workshop drainage - part 7

Been busy doing other things but now back to garage drainage

Back from Bunnings with more bage of concrete mix and backfill pebbles.

Garage drainage - part 6

Lovely morning so let's get out there and mix come concrete.

Rather that fill the whole trench with concrete I'm just doing pads under the joints.

This is the left or fence side.

Garage drainage - part 5

After three days of inclement weather and not being able to pick up tools (downed tools) it's good to come out of hibernation.

More kneeling... need to cut out the end of that angled timber so the corner grate can line up with the PVC pipe.

What can I use to cut that out?

Bad weather stuck inside

I wish to advise that backyard activities including the drainage project have been cancelled for today - and maybe tomorrow

Garage drainage - part 4

New plants to replace Jasmine

From the Bunning trip last week - planting plants

This is the section where I removed all the Jasmine that was pulling down the trellis and damaging the fence - see last photo.

Garage drainage - part 3

I need to work out how to connect 90mm PVC to the corner grate.

Bunnings new work boots - follow-up

From Woolworths for $10 that's OK.

Garage drainage - part 2

Took me over a hour to remove that star pickett, no room for the crowbar so had to use that garden trowel digging on only one side - phew.

Lucky that I have this one and only 4.3M 90mm PVC pipe leftover from a previous job.

Bunnings - New work boots!

Looking through the boot range at Bunnings was about to give up as most were $80 to over $200 bucks - Crikey. Walking away I noticed some boots at floor level hidden behind a display box for $33 - grabbed them.

Garage drainage - part 1

With the weather becoming more unpredictable and extreme these days I need to provide some drainage across the front of my workshop.

I call it Al's Workshop but it's simply  a colorbond steel   garage with four skylights, two back windows, side entry door and front roller door.
