14" Bandsaw – Wood turning setup

All setup to turn the wheel and cut a crown.

As mentioned in the previous post I had to swap over the setup to have the wheel on the right so it's spins down onto the wood chisel which is supported by the 'tool rest'.

This photo clearly summarizes the job, the wheel spins clockwise 

and the chisel, held firmly on the pine tool rest, is slowly moved into the wheel rim to make the cut. Initially to trim the circumference and minimise run out. After this the wheel rim is shaped for a 5 degree crown.

Motor turns on...get to work with the chisel - with gloves.

Here you can see the crown, still need to trim some more but I'll stop here to make a proper template for measuring the 5 degrees.

Why a crown - it's a fact of life that a belt or blade running on a pulley or wheel will always wander to the high spot or crown - if one exists. If none the belt or blade will very likely come off.

Later on these crowned bandsaw wheels will have 'tyres' for the saw blade to run on. Not to digress here the wheels are 14" and I already have 12" bicycle inner tubes from Kmart which will be trimmed to become - tyres.

I'll make a template tomorrow to properly measure the 5 degree crown and finish the trimming.
