14” Bandsaw – Turning the second wheel

Yesterday I turned the first wheel for run-out and cut a crown on the rim. For this session we repeat the procedure for the second wheel.

This is the first wheel put aside, time to mount the second one on the wood turning jig clamped to the workbench.

Just finished the second wheel.

The V-belt pulley will remain on this wheel which is now - the lower bandsaw wheel.

Time to tidy up and clean up for the next stage.

Here we go…just started the next stage. This is the bandsaw base box that will house the saw motor and provide a platform for mounting the lower wheel.

I need to have a think about the relationship between the motor and the wheel. Last time the motor was positioned below as shown with the wheel mounted to the left on top of the base box. The idea was to leverage the weight of the motor (quite heavy and was hinged) to assist belt tension but there always seemed to be to much vibration…hmmm.

On nice days with all the windows and doors open it's a nice hobby space and every now and then the chooks will wander through to check what's happening.

Coming back inside for a coffee and there's Holly in her favourite summertime spot, the cooler downstairs foyer.

Back soon...
