We have two home security systems and both of them are from ALDI; the main house system and another one in the workshop.
The workshop DVR has HDD failures from time-to-time so it's become a familiar routine to pull out the unit, remove the HDD and connect to workshop PC to fix it - but not format. Do that when it's back in the DVR the connect a test camera to make sure it records OK before putting it back in the cupboard.
The DVR is located in this cupboard near the side entrance with an old Dell LCD monitor on top. Channel 1 & 2 are the workshop cameras. Channel 4 camera looks down the carport and up the driveway. This one full screen allows me to keep an eye on things when home alone. Channel 3 is general purpose outside camera usually on a makeshift camera stand (old windmill base) that I move around as needed.
DVR is recording again so reconnect all the cameras and we are done.
This time I won't bother putting the cover back on.
Just leave it sitting on top.
