Dell network switch - revisited

From 2004 - 2019 this Dell PowerConnect 2016  switch was our main switch located in the upstairs linen cupboard. When it died I had a go at repairing the power supply but gave up and it was replaced with a Netgear switch. The photo below is was taken in 2019 photo when the switch died.

While cleaning up Al's Workshop came across it again and decided to have have another look – to repair.
Let’s power the switch from the bench power supply.

On the left is the power supply that I tried to fix. It's more that just replacing caps but I'm thinking now - why bother?

It's simply a 5V power supply. Swapped out bad caps but no-go so gave up. Let’ see what the switch draws and then fnd a suitable 5V power adaptor.

The switch powers up and initialises OK

Drawing 1.4 amps... we need to find a power supply around 3 amps.

Found a 5V @ 3A power supply so let’s get rid of that PCB.

Removing the IEC socket took a while trying to depress the finger clips.

Found a line DC power supply connector.

Soldered the connections and powered up the switch - nothing.

The male to female is a mismatch, the pin is to small. Used hook-up clips to get it working and the 5V/2A that I found does not have enough grunt. Start again...

Did another walk around and found a 5V @ 3A power supply. To make the connection I'm using a DC PCB mount socket off a DVR recorder.

I’ll be back to mount that DC power socket on the back of the switch.
