The saw is basically finished and now has it’s own parking spot on the floor.
Got onto one of the last little jobs this afternoon, the blade tension knob which is still just a screw nut.
Marked out on some scrap MDF a 40mm radius circle, then counter punched around the circumference at 90° intervals – and the centre. Bored four 15mm holes with a Forstner bit which will provide for finger grip. Then cut out the knob on the bandsaw, yes…the saw is making it’s own parts.
Over to the belt & disc sander. With practice I have developed my own sanding procedures. For example with this particular job we now need to sand the four lobes, the same methodology can be applied to discs and wheels. The actual disc sander table is fairly small so to increase the work area I made a larger plywood table that slides onto the former and held from underneath with a timber block clamp.
Here is the plywood ‘extension’ table also clamped at the top left corner. On top of this is a thinner plywood sheet with a clamp only pinched up at it’s the lower right corner – so it can pivot.
The work piece, in this case a knob, is located near the edge and pinned with a clout. With the left hand the top board is pushed (pivoted) towards the sanding disc so the knob makes contact, now press down to hold the board at that position. Turn the knob slowly with the right hand to sand the edge. Repeat until the lowest point(s) on the circumference has/have been sanded – done.
