Aussies held to ransom by nasty software
"Ransomware" has been customised to scare Australians. Photo: Botnets.fr
If your computer appears to be taken hostage by local police who demand the payment of a fine to grant you access to your data, would you pay the fee, yank the power cord or recognise a scam and figure out how to neutralise it?

Vapour trails…
Vapour trails...left behind by some sort of twin jet engine aircraft. By the time I grabbed my Kodak Z730 camera to take snaps the vapour trails had already started to merge together.

Unauthorised treats
As usual after tending to the horses we visit Shyla, the older kids dog. On the way out she is left with some treats but today she found her own – snack. Her flavour preference is obvious, note how the tops have been shaved off!

Toilet break
Shyla - the older kids K9, is there such a thing as a grand pet? We visit her most days around lunchtime, she knows the routine and while I am out the back with her for toilet and play ET (the wife) is inside preparing her treats and checking on the two cats – and fish tank temperature! I was trying to get her to hold the round “saucer like” plastic thing in her mouth – no luck.

Holly our 6yo golden retriever has a lump!
We booked her in today for 2:00pm visit to the vet. Been here before and know what to expect, needle aspiration then wait with fingers (and toes) crossed while they check under the scope. Good news is she is OK, no cancer cells just fatty ones – PHEW!!!

Retirement - two years on
Pulled the plug on July 10th 2010, the clock radio still wakes me every morning but these days it's set for 8:15am - not 6:30am. One of the nice things about retirement is being able to do what you want when you want - and not have answer to anyone.

Knock knock power joke that has a poorer punchline
A government-sanctioned charge of $39 per customer is imposed to "customer acquisition costs" to "encourage competition" – unbelievable. Now we have to pay for their door knockers to do the rounds!
Knock knock power joke that has a poorer punchline POWER retailers will slug struggling customers $65 million through a secret charge to fund door-to-door sales, cold-

Cable internet down
Cable internet down last night around midnight, we are on Telstra BigPond and the Netgear CGD24N was obviously not establishing a connection with Send flashing and the Receive light off. We also have Foxtel (from Telstra) which uses the same cable and that was working normally which usually means there is no physical cable fault and the problem is within the BigPond network – which is good. Never mind off to bed and see if it’s back in the morning.

Horse agistment – bar fridge not working
Do we try to fix or just buy another one?
The fridge is behaving abnormally, one day the carrots were icing up and other occasions the fridge was not running, defrosting with water in the bottom – thermostat?

- Thermoelectric technology
- Celsius or Fahrenheit switch, digital temperature range from 8-18 degrees.
- 50(h) x 25 (d) x 49.5 (w)cm
The bar fridge down at the horse agistment that we use for storing carrots (horses like them) has decided that 2011 is it’s last year of operation. No complaints it must be over 20 years old, thermostat appears to be working OK but when it cuts in compressor just hums – or whines no pun.
