I mentioned that I was trying to figure out a way to transfer the ballerina cutting template to a large sheet of 3mm MDF sheet. I tried with my 3M (overhead projector) but that didn't work out.
Next up is to have a go with the Sanyo short throw projector but I don't have a screen.
Sunlite 8 1.2 x 0.61m Clear Twinwall Polycarbonate Sheet |
Came up with the idea of using polycarbonate sheet which is lighter than MDF, a roll of poster paper.and pine timber to support the screen - see first photo.
The Sanyo short throw LCD projector is a bit ancient but works well with a low-life lamp and VGA if fine for what we are doing here.
In the first photo I used the conventional setup with the projector sitting on the workbench hard up against the screen. That worked fine but...impossible to climb up on the workbench and trace the projected outline.
Revised position with projector sitting on my homemade 14" band saw facing down! and the screen sitting on the workbench - weird but looking good.
We are using a STB box (set top box) with a USB stick plugged in containing the ballerina image - it works!
Finally we are ready to trace the outline with a 4B pencil onto the MDF sheet on the workbench.
The board at the back is simply to cut down the bright light coming in from outside and I've even closed my shademesh windows blinds :-)
Started to trace the outline but even a light hand the not possible to trace as the whole thing is too rickety moving all over the place - so added a extra leg :-)
The setup is also bowed her and there so added some more weight.
Yep we can start tracing.
Working my way around carefully following the outline with a 4B pencil.
The pencilled outline is hard to see in a camera photo, but it's there.
Phew... very happy to see that! last thing I wanted was to phone the customer to inform I can't do the job!
Enough for now in the next session we'll cut out the ballerina!
Back soon...
