No picture and LED's flashing like fairy lights
When I was doing the Dell GX270 memory upgrade went off looking for one of my spare monitors and grabbed the above which was working fine last time I used it but that's a few years ago now. After connecting the external 12V/3A power supply turned on at the power point and the three front panel LED's came on like fairy lights - not good.
Early 2000 but still a nice monitor...even has DVI !!!
Needed a monitor when doing the GX270 memory upgrade.
We need to remove the stand and then the back...
Like a lot of electronic stuff this one is well known for bad caps (capacitors). The whole board should be recapped but for now at the top of the list are 2 x 10uf / 16V. I went through some of my electronics stuff from another lifetime and came up with the correct ones - see next pic. With a really fine tip in the Weller I've already removed to two suspect tiny surface mount caps (left) and now waiting for ET to put in the pigtail replacements.
I don't do much electronic stuff these days so all the stuff is stored in lots of cardboard box's. Wow...the first one I pulled out had what I wanted...
Lucky...found a few 10uf / 25V pigtail caps.
As already mentioned removed the suspect surface ones on the left and waiting for ET to prepare and solder in the replacements - on the right.
Before going any further connected the power supply to make a quick check that it works. Turn on power point and nothing, that's a good start. Press power button and it turns on with normal LED operation - good. With no video input we should get a floating test pattern - good. OK now to screw it all back together.
