With spring approaching already started venturing out to the workshop and while tidying up and reorganizing things I stubbed my toes on a heavy metal object lying on the floor of the garage/workshop – ouch.
Oh yeah that’s the Bianco 800W water pump that has a stuffed controller, it’s been replaced with a 1100W Gardenline pump from ALDI for $99.
No way I would throw it out of course as there’s nothing wrong with the actual motor. I could use that to power something – what about a bandsaw !!!
COLLECTING THE PARTS
I stripped down the Bianco Bia-Inox 80 PC Pressure Pump and now I have my first major component for the bandsaw - a nice 1hp TEFC motor. It’s a 2 pole capacitor start that runs at 2850rpm so I will need to slow it down - bandsaws run about half that speed. Motor also runs CCW so depending on how it’s mounted I may have to reverse the direction – we’ll see.
WHEEL BEARINGS
I will need bearing for the wheels – and shafting material, from memory both Bunnings and Masters have 25mm stuff so bearings with 25mm ID would be a good starting point.
Found a local company that specialises in carbon brushes for motors and they also stock a range of replacement motor bearing, mostly the smaller sizes and fortunately one larger 6205 size - 52mm OD and 25mm ID.
Bought 4 x 6205 from Shunk Australia P/L in Scoresby for less than $30 bucks – done.
BEARING SHAFTS
Need some shafting material so checked out both Bunnings and Masters. Neither has solid so had to settle for tubing. My memory of 25mm was correct.
Bunnings - Metal Mate 25.4 x 1.2 1m Galvanised Steel Round Tube. Grinding down 0.2mm off this requires too much effort. I'll pay a visit to Masters.
Update: Decided although it's aluminum to use the 25 x 1.6 RD Tube Aluminum 2160mm from Masters
A bit of trial work with Emery paper and the bearing slides nicely onto the Masters tubing.
