Chook shed - bedding change.

Every morning I de-poop their boxes when Holly and I go down to let them out. I change their bedding every two weeks in winter and weekly in summer when the mites are more active.

Been doing chooks for about 10 years and have become paranoid about bird mites so I dust the bottom of the cleaned out box's before putting in fresh hay. Apparently mites leave their hosts in the morning and retreat into the bedding and other places where they can hide. This is why I only use 'hard surface' coop furniture like plastic boxes and laminated timber. A regular piece of timber is a perfect hiding place for the little buggers.

Speckles - EYP recovery update

Egg yolk peritonitis (EYP) is basically internal laying. We had to take her back to the vet last week for some more treatment and to have a implant injected into her chest – OMG

The implant releases hormone signals which prevent any more (soft) eggs from being laid, it is the secreting egg material which leads to egg peritonitis. Apparently the implant which costs $99 lasts about four months, Ruby had the same thing but she recovered with one course of antibiotics and did not need the implant. To add to all the stress and worry Speckles is moulting as well!

GARMIN - Smartphone Link

As posted earlier bought a GARMIN GPS off our older daughter.

Browsing the Garmin website came across the Smartphone Link app (interesting) so installed it on my Samsung GT-N7000 Note.
