Mower repairs–part 1

Victa Briggs & Stratton mulching mower will not start (bugger)

Since the last time I serviced the mower a few years ago it's been running well and now suddenly with no warnings - will not start ???

There are a couple of things creeping in lately, harder to prime and the recoil starter is dodgy - slack cord.

Removed the cover, the end of the throttle cable needs to be unhooked from the throttle arm.

We have a problem here but for there want to get there mower running. Sometimes the ratchet does not lock and I suspect the two plastic pawls.

Although well serviced and hosed off after use it looks like it's ready for hard rubbish or been collected… off hard rubbish…LOL. Checked my records and was…purchased in 2008…that's 12 years ago !!!

This is the main bolt that secures the fuel tank to the mower body. Care is required when removing the tank.

Before I do that we need more lighting.

Carefully pull off the tank with a wiggle motion while keeping a eye on the white plastic ring and the ‘O’ ring. Then tilt the tank enough to disengage the governor arm.

With that done ready for the next stage.

Brush off and clean with a rag without getting anything down the hole.

Unscrew the five screws and carefully lift off the carburettor.

Upside down looks like this. We are going to replace the gasket and behind it the diaphragm, known as a Diaphragm & Gasket Kit.

Looks pretty clean hope we are on the right track.

Here is the gasket with the diaphragm propped up. Off now to buy some mower parts – back soon.
