Jigsaw table – blade guide arm

Continuing on from the last session we have the jigsaw mounted upside down in the box with the blade poking out the top. Now we need some sort of blade guide support arm that will minimize the blade flexing, in particular on curved cuts.

Door-Catch
Went looking for ideas through all the hardware stuff and paused with a Double Roller Catch in the palm of my hand…thinking.

Pulled the catch apart and mounted them as shown with bolts and nuts at the end of two bits of wood. Now I need to work how to hold those rollers on either side of the blade.

Came up with this, a bit ugly but we can make refinements later on.

The roller guide thing is screwed to the blade guide arm, waiting for the glue to dry.

Back tomorrow…

Here is the blade guide arm mounted on the table, it’s height is adjustable the idea being that at the bottom of the blade stroke the roller guides are a bit down from the tip of the blade.

This is the arm support at the back of the table, loosen the screws to set the height and tighten back up.

Surprised how well it cuts…

Pretty sure there’s more to come with this one…stay tuned.
